Portugal coach Roberto Martinez recently shared about his experience working with Cristiano Ronaldo and the 38-year-old striker’s role as captain and commitment:

“I see Cristiano Ronaldo happy and at an important moment. He is enjoying his role with club and country, and his commitment is fulfilled. As a coach, you must make the players fit the style of play, but you also have to fit the team, and Cristiano as a leader comes naturally. I can’t talk about other times, from day one until the final match against Iceland. The captain’s commitment was healthy and helped the players a lot.”

At the age of 38, Ronaldo still shows positive and encouraging impacts on the national team as well as the club he is playing for. CR7’s effort, not giving up, and fighting spirit, like in his twenties, clearly inspired many people and made them crazy.

Coach Roberto Martinez replaced Fernando Santos after Portugal was eliminated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals against Morocco. The Spanish coach won all 12 matches with Portugal, conceding only 2 goals and scoring 44 goals. The former Belgium coach helped Portugal comfortably qualify for the UEFA 2024 Euro by winning all 10 matches in the qualifying round and topping the group.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is in impressive form under Martinez. He scored 10 goals and had 2 assists in nine appearances in the Euro Qualifiers.
